Our Environments
Toddler Child (Starting to walk - 3 years)
This is a child with a mind like a sponge; absorption is limitless and non- selective. This is a child that takes it all in, everything in its entirety. They have the super power that Maria Montessori liked to call “The Absorbent Mind.” This is not the only super power this child has, there is something called “The Sensitive Periods” that a child of this age group goes through. They go through a sensitive period for a few important aspects of development, such as Movement, Language, Order, Tiny Objects and Social Behavior.
Primary Environment (Age 3 - 6 years)
A primary child is blessed with an absorbent mind to effortlessly imbibe a way of learning that will last his lifetime. Learning for a Primary Child revolves around tangible, hands- on experiences, using his senses. A Primary child has a decent vocabulary (of about 2000 words), better concentration and coordination of movements and continues to learn through concrete materials.
Lower Elementary (Age 6 - 9 years)
This is a time of insatiable curiosity and excitement for learning. The teachers engage the students in the learning process by teaching them how to organize and take ownership of their work, make choices and pursue their interests. The Lower elementary environment is filled with enticing learning materials and books that engage the children’s active minds, support their growing skills and ensure all the curriculum areas are covered.
Upper Elementary (Age 9 - 12 years)
Our methods are oriented not to any pre-established principles, but rather to the inherent characteristics of the different age groups. It follows that these characteristics itself marks the different levels. Though the changes from one level to another in the child, can be compared to the process of metamorphosis in insects; the levels are neither distinct nor easy to define. Hence, we define them as “re-births” in the child, where the child presents different characteristics as he / she enters the different stages of their life.
Early Adolescence (Age 12 - 14 years)
In early adolescents, the children are coming to terms with their new identity as an adolescent and the world outside the family and school. For the first time, they see themselves as individuals who must integrate all of their separate identities into one while moving into a larger community. This is a time of dissonance as childhood ends and a new identity and individuality emerges.
Grade 9 and 10 ( Age 14-16 years)
Sprouts Montessori House of Children is open for students of Grade 9 and 10. We will be following the IGCSE curriculum keeping in mind the Montessori Philosophy. Our students will appear as private candidates with APL Global School.
